The House has released a new version of Dream Act called HR 6497

The HR 6497 bill is a little bit different.

Age cap 30

It mandates a lot of fee in the new bill !

_ $600 application fee for 5 year conditional nonimmigrant status

_ after 5 years, you have to apply for a 5 year extension. It'll cost you up to $2000 for this 5 year extension

_ In the first 5 years of conditional status, you have to earned a degree or has completed at least 2 years of college; or, you have to serve in military for 2 years.

If you meets the above requirements, you could extend your conditional nonimmigrant status for another 5 years.

After 10 years, you could apply for a green card.

Then after another 3 years, you could apply for citizenship.

It's confirmed now, Retroactive provision is completely removed

source: The above post comes from my own analysis of the newest Dream Act bill HR 6497, which was introduced by Rep. Berman on Dec 7th 2010.

Also, I see another pathway for Dream Act now. If the Senate Dream Act bill S. 3992 fails in Senate today, it could still come back to Senate in the form of the house bill HR 6497 given that House is expected to pass HR 6497.

There has to be a reason why they released this version a day before the vote.

Ouch. this can be DA User's worst nightmare. He had so high hope because he believed the House bill was the old one that had no age cap.

Looks like House sorta compromised with Senate bill.

The House already looked like they had enough votes for passages anyway, its the Senate we have to worry about.

You'd have five years to collect that much.

pOOR DA USER, I feel so fucking bad for him.

$2000 for the 5 year extension it's kinda cool, because you really need to finish your college or military
