So, if the bill wasn't tabled, what would that mean? Would that have killed the bill for sure?

If the vote wasn't tabled, they would have gone ahead with the cloture vote. We did not have the votes to pass the DREAM Act today, so Reid decided that he would rather vote for the House version next week. This gives us more time to call senators, and it will also take place after the tax bill is voted on, which will help us.

More than likely, yes. What the vote means [to me at least] is that they are taking this much more seriously than before, perhaps I daresay more than the 2007 effort.Think of it like this: Democrats want Dream act,Republicans want tax cuts. The reality here is who blinks of bluffs first !

I agree, it doesn't feel like a Hail Mary vote this time

Didnt the House block the new tax cuts just today. Doesn't that hurt the Dream in a way or so ?

i want to know why vitter voted yes along with corker and murkowski and why bennett, snowe, collins, voinovich, menenedez, and lugar voted no. fascinating to watch. didn;t brownback and he was a sponsor and is leaving office. to tell the truth, i think we just might have 60 votes right now.
remember, nobody wants to be the 60th vote and get the blame.
