(RTTNews) - President Barack Obama is scheduled to meet with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus on Tuesday, with the Senate's inability to pass the DREAM Act likely to be on the agenda.

According to the schedule released by the White House, Obama will hold a meeting with the members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in the Oval Office beginning at about 10:45 am ET.

The meeting comes a few days after Senate Republicans blocked a bill that would have provided a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who were brought into the country as children.

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, also called the DREAM Act, would have allowed illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to earn legal status if they join the military or attend college. Republicans rejected the bill, arguing that it is equivalent to amnesty.

While Democrats failed to get the 60 votes needed to move ahead with the legislation, Mitch Stewart, Director of Obama's political arm Organizing for America, sent a letter to supporters on Monday indicating that the "fight for the DREAM Act is not over."

"We need to send a clear message to the Republicans that none of us are going away—that we will continue to fight," Stewart wrote.

Stewart criticized Republicans such as Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who have supported the DREAM Act in the past but voted against it on Saturday. He also accused the GOP of moving their party toward greater levels of extremism.

"With the House under Republican control in the next Congress, we need to make it clear that we will stand strong for an America built on hard work, fairness, and equality—not one ruled by xenophobia and fear," Stewart wrote.

He added, "This fight isn't over—and when it comes up in the next Congress, we need to be on the record saying that Republicans can't hold reform hostage to political games."

wounds are getting bigger...a simple meeting won't solve anything. i think if he wants to be serious about it or committed then the president should approach a CIR . yes he can...but playing pure politics. he worked his charm on the health care reform....then he can do the same for CIR

Obama spoke for 19 seconds about Immigration during his address to Congress.

Obama could have told those 5 dems either Aye vote or get no campaign money or endorsement for their re-election.

Obama lost a vote in my household. My sister isn't going to vote for the other guy, but she's not going to cast her vote, tough shit Mr. President.

Oh thank goodness he's having a meeting! I was beginning to worry. I don't care about the passage of the DA or CIR. What I care about is Obama having these meetings! That's where babies are made and magic happens!

this is how this would go down. they will come out of meeting and say republican killed the bill. They can't do anything and vote for him and he will do something in 2013/2014. This asshole (obama) should have pushed it at the beginning of his presidency before tea party and heath care refore. i hope next 2 yr none of his law passes. asshole

Maybe with people like Reagan or Bush. Not with Mr. "I will sit on my ass when it to comes to immigration, should you pass some reform I will sign it.

Same verbage that has gotten the whole anti immigrant community and the moderate people to hate this and fight like hell against it. Everyone needs to drop the words fight because they will fight and win , demanding things because they will make sure you dont get them. New plan of action and fought in the courts this rah rah crap does nothing but kill the cause.

sunny_thedreamer, people like you piss me off, that CRY and BITCH and MOAN when stuff doesn't go exactly how you want it. DID he not fight for the DREAM act? Yes he did. Did he have to?? No. He could have been pro-mass deportation if he fucking wanted to, so shut the fuck up and be grateful he is even taking his time of day to acknowledge the damn bill, retard.
