Hi everyone, I was wondering if it was possible to renew Korean passport here in the states? I did search the forum for an answer, but most posts only talked about renewal problems regarding being a male and joining the army. Since I am a girl, would I be able to renew? My dad tried to renew it for me 3 years ago, and the lady at the Korean Consulate told him to comeback when we get a green card. Which would mean I can't renew since I am out of status? Is she misinformed? Thanks

I'm not Korean, but you should be able to renew your passport at your country of origin's consulate despite your immigration status in the US.

No, you can renew your passport. I'm from an Asian country and I renewed my passport a few months ago. Go to a Korean embassy and they'll do it for you.

It matters how old you are, if your under the age where you have to delay your military passport wont come out. After if you delay your military with proper document and reason it will

Hi, I'm new here. You are allowed to renew your korean passport without a problem if you are a female. I did so last summer at the korean consulate in LA. They just made me sign a paper stating that I would file for legal status when one day I got the opportunity.

Did the workers at the consulate in Los Angeles speak English? I'm worried since I can only speak broken Korean. Can you also tell me what you brought with you to the consulate? I just want to know what I should expect.

And thanks everyone for your response

My dad came with me, so he spoke in korean with them. But I think they would speak
in English if you initiated the conversation. I remember bringing my old passport, cash, and filling out the form there. The thing is you need to put a Korean address on the form, so I just ended up putting my relative's.

Oh no... the only relative we had in Korea which would be my grandpa is now deceased. I don't have any address we can use since its only me and my parents. And all our relatives live in America. Do they mail the passport there or something?

No. I just picked it up from the consulate. Maybe you can put a friend's address or a random one? I don't know if they really check it.
