Hey, guys. I just have a few suggestions regarding the way this forum is categorized.

First of all, we have a few main sections:

Quote:
  • The News Room: Get up to date or post breaking news. One thread per news item pertaining to the DREAM Act and related issues.
  • The Lounge: Talk about any and all topics relevant to DREAM Act beneficiaries. Personal experiences, as well as questions about the laws and issues surrounding the bill, go here.
  • Other Topics: Topics that do not fall into any other section. Themes that are generally not pertinent to the DREAM Act and its beneficiaries.
  • Taking Action: Calling Senators, handing out fliers, anything that raises awareness of the Dream Act and its beneficiaries. This is where it all happens.
Now, what I have noticed is that more and more people keep posting threads that belong in other sections. Sections that belong in the “Other Topics” sections are posted on “The Lounge”. Things that belong on the “The News Room” are posted on the “The Lounge”, and the other way around too.

I suggest distinguishing the purpose of each section more clearly. Sometimes, people post questions about driver’s licenses in “The Lounge”. Now, I am not sure if that is where it belongs. I thought it was for DA discussion?

That is just a simple example.

-----

What I suggest is to add another section that is only visible to members. A section where people can ask personal issues: driver’s licenses, id’s, getting into college, etc. (Maybe, have a separate college section visible to everyone, too?)

This will allow “The News Room” and “The Lounge” to actually be dedicated to the D.R.E.A.M. Act. They won’t have to be cluttered with threads asking about getting a job or traveling. They will actually contain discussions regarding the bill.

I am not asking to end all discussions regarding personal issues that all of us Dreamers face and need help with. I am only suggesting that we put those threads on a separate section. That way, things will be more organized. And, THIS forum can handle this addition of sections, as the forum does not have a lot of sections to begin with. So, even if a couple of new sections are added, the forum will be not cluttered with separate sections.

Thank You.

Great suggestions. I recommend that they should be implemented soon.

One argument against my suggestions is that we do not need new categories; we can just use private messages.

Well, I agree. That is definitely the safest bet.

However, that is not the best bet.

Private messages do not allow the person asking the question to get the best possible and accurate information. For example, suppose I ask about getting a license in Washington. And, I pm a few people. I might get a few skewed responses. It would be best to make a thread where everyone can provide solid feedback. That way, we can all make our best judgment with the provided point of views.

(People may still send private messages regarding even more detailed personal issues if they wish to.)

--
Most importantly:

Mere private messaging does not tackle the problem that this forum is facing regarding organization.

--
I understand people who say that people can still easily sign up for membership when they learn of the invisible section. Of course, this will happen. But, it is worse than having threads (asking about getting driver’s licenses as an undocumented student, for example) out there in the open.

---

The only way to stop trolls from “seeking wrong doing and illegal discussions” would be to completely get rid of these types of threads. Of course, that is not fair to many of our fellow Dreamers. We all need to survive, as we are still humans.

Yeah! All threads should be approved and organized by our dear leader.
