getting DREAM and CIR passed requires a multi-faceted and multi-layered approach. Certainly one layer in that approach is letting politicians know that the public is paying attention to who does/doesn't support DREAM. Fear of the Latino voting bloc rejecting anti-DREAM politicians is a potent tool and we should be looking for ways to expand that tool. Agree that increasing voter turnout among Latinos in the next major election will help maximize this tool. We should consider how social media can help spread this message and encourage voter turnout among our constituents. Also, we should work towards the expansion of broad-based support in other sectors. For example, a student/labor movement may assist in exposing the brutality of immigration laws that foster an underclass system.

We have a large, powerful Hispanic constituency, but hardly any of them vote or exercise organized power politically.

If the Tea Party can do it, if nativists and anti-immigrants and white supremacists can wield political power, why can't the Hispanic community?

Why is it all these isolated groups when we can have one large united popular front??
We have Obama's supreme court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor is her name. Remember that, back in the Summer of 2009 they made that decision to give her that position. There was some political dogfighting about it, however.

Trust me, Hispanics are gaining political power in this country. You've got Robert Mendez in New Jersey also. In a few years, you will have one large united political front. It's just taking time to develop, but when it does it will deliver a powerful message to the country.

I don't mind the trolls and antis if they make their arguments clearly and openly instead of pretending to be dreamers. Why be so deceptive?

Thanks for the propers, man.

I have been kind of silently taking everything in since the failure of the DREAM Act, and it seems to me electoral power is the only way to proceed. I wish we could somehow make a targeted campaign against politicians who went anti-Hispanic to send a message that they are trying to drag history in the wrong direction. I really think that this should be the entire focus of the next two years. Here are seats I think could send a good message to Republicans (and an implied message to Democrats and not always realistic):

Kay Bailey Hutchinson's seat (a prime target).
Jeff Sessions seat (out of pure spite, but not really based on reality).
John Kyl's seat (a prime target).
Lindsey Graham's seat.
Steve King's seat (out of spite).
Elton Gallegy's seat (out of spite cause he is the OG xenophobe).
Lamar Smith's seat (a good target).
Any other seats in the South, and especially in TX, CA, AZ, GA, SC, NC and Nevada.

I think a targeted approach really could lead to some upsets that would send a message--the opposite way that the Tea Party did the last time around. I also feel people should not vote for Obama, unless the GOP alternative is so bad as to force one's hand to prevent a new form of Nazism.

Just wish more people would listen about activism like this though. Ugh.

Glad you're talking about it.

The Hispanic community faces several obstacles, most importantly poverty and cultural disenfranchisement that keeps them away from the voting booth.

Once my own house is in order, I'm going to be much more politically active.

The way our lives are being raped by the GOP compels me like nothing else.
