Don't be cynical. Remember, in 2010 SOTU speech, he barely mentioned CIR, let alone Dream Act.

And now, in the 2011 SOTU speech, he spent quite a lot of time to talk about Dream Act and CIR. What more can you expect from him?

"One last point about education. Today, there are hundreds of thousands of students excelling in our schools who are not American citizens. Some are the children of undocumented workers, who had nothing to do with the actions of their parents. They grew up as Americans and pledge allegiance to our flag, and yet live every day with the threat of deportation. Others come here from abroad to study in our colleges and universities. But as soon as they obtain advanced degrees, we send them back home to compete against us. It makes no sense.

Now, I strongly believe that we should take on, once and for all, the issue of illegal immigration. I am prepared to work with Republicans and Democrats to protect our borders, enforce our laws and address the millions of undocumented workers who are now living in the shadows. I know that debate will be difficult and take time. But tonight, let’s agree to make that effort. And let’s stop expelling talented, responsible young people who can staff our research labs, start new businesses, and further enrich this nation.
"

All versions of the DREAM Act have been removed from the THOMAS.gov site - I harbor no illusions about his committment to reform immigration laws. He will try to deport as many people as possible - hence, "enforce our laws" - and let the Republicans come up with a "plan" for the people who remain hidden. He will sign anything to get re-elected.

If you were expecting him to single out this issue as the most urgent message then you need to lay off on the Sativa.
^^^ Like, I strongly belief it is not until we elevate ourselves above the pessimn, work with high energy and enthusiam even when we explicitly know we are faced with utter failure, that Dream or CIR will be accomplished, it is going to take all combined/energy of our good community to change the status quo, just my two cents, of course.!

That set the bar very low, so a 1 min. remark, give or take seconds, seems like the proclamation for immigration reform. It was a calculated answer. It promises nothing, and doesn't commit himself to anything (re: Immigration).

I know that you're very upset since the last defeat of Dream Act. However, you have to move on, and look forward to the next battle.

Have faith. Dream Act will pass eventually.

Also, if you compare the proportion of immigration-related text with the other issues' in the speech, you'll see that immigration is a relatively big chunk of the speech

When the President mentioned the Dream Act, I sincerly believe he cares for us, but I just don't think he cares ENOUGH to jeopardize his re-election for it. I am anxious to see what 2011 has to offer for the Dream Act, but if Obama applies a bit more support to Dream Act like he did to ObamaCare, then maybe just maybe, it might have a chance..but we all know Republicants will bring up the same old excuse, we need to secure our borders blah blah blah! Everyone just keep your heads up, if you are going to school, finish up, then if nothing happens move on to a better place that actually wants you. Just my two cents.

Wish he said more and called it by name: DREAM. He spoke so eloquently about the need for America to step up it's game and DREAM is as symbolic of that as any piece of legislation, more so really. Nevertheless, something is better than nothing and, in the end, the effort of a single politician, even the President, will not make DREAM happen. The lion's share of the effort will come from a united, organized, and strategic campaign so focused that it is impossible to resist.

We need to spread our word and we need our stories to be spread all over the U.S. If we can get the American people in our side then they will be on our side but they need the information and we need the media to be able to do this. I mean yea sure Obama implied it but we need it to be more forward and strong as a piece of legislation.
