How to get Paid from work?

Okay so far for 4 years in insurance agency business, the employer paid me by paying for my college tuition and I been paying him back with my hourly wages. I am almost done paying off my debt. I am graduating this year and now I must find other ways for him to pay me.

Does he lose or risk anything by paying me in cash? I am assuming he doesn't want to pay me in cash because he doesn't want IRS to audit his company by having cash outflow, and thus link to him hiring an illegal? I don't mind him taking out tax of my pay because I too have ITIN number to file taxes and stuff.

Maybe he can pay me as self-contractor 1099? and I report my own taxes?

I worked for a local business and they paid me by 1099. I had OPT visa back then, so it was legit. Im not sure how big your company is but most of the business owners dont want to risk it. If ICE+IRS find out that your boss hired an illegal immigrant, you know its gonna get ugly. However, most of the time, they dont care about small business unless your company makes $$$$$$$$

The question is... is he willing to keep you as an employee? My friend has illegal status but works at a warehouse and gets paid by 1099 checks.
