stocks arnt for everyone, i did some stocks for testing and going to do in the future.. i am a business/real estate major though.
every business teacher will tell you to not go into stocks unless you keep an eye on everything and consider stocks a new job.. not sure what kind of stocks you want to get into wether long or short tearm but be careful and get some help before you enter the stock world you can lose a very large amount of money in a day... its like gambling

in that case go for it. make sure its money you dont need and keep a look at investment shows... not fox business that one is crap
and try to predict what will be important in the near future like solar power technologies or biofuels or look for long term investments like copper has been steadily growing and going to keep going growing for years and years to come

Search the forums.

However, just to save you some trouble. You are not going to get anywhere with a few hundred dollars.
