I moved back in 2007 i believe it was, i ended up in Ireland...Now moving/thinking Amsterdam or London..

As far as example for Ireland if you are EU citizen, you dont pay any tuition for Bachelors Degree all EU citizens study for free, the only thing you pay is about 600euros for 4 yrs for books, supplies, membership fees.

Prices: Irish seem to complain that its very expensive i find it weird: i get full cart of groceries for bout 40 euros...example 5kg of potatoes 1.19 E, a 4 Liter pack of Sprite/Coke 1.59, about 7 bananas 1.98, a bag of tomatoes 2.20, liter of tomato juice 69cents, i find prices very cheap, alcohol, meat, chemical things are bit more expensive....I seem to find the products more tasting, maybe because the EU has stricker guidelines in using pasticides, chemicals in food.

If you become unemployed your benefits are: about 316 Euros per week (you collect it every week in post office), plus your house/apartment rent is paid, you get a medical card you are entitled to free dentist, doctor, hospital visits, and you pay for all medicines 50cents doesnt matter if the retail price of the medicine is 1.00 euro or 150 euros.

What else i can add you get 21 paid vacation days , in France i think?! 40!...I have been in Egypt, Morocco, Italy, Spain etc for weekends you wont believe, sometimes you can find airplane roundtrip tickets for 10,20 Euros thats equivalent to 4 beers in a bar...shout out to ryanair.com lol

thats about it, good luck.....and a big FU to U.S, ur economy is trash already, and in couple years you will be on your knees to China begging to forgive your loans from them.oh wait that started already, no worry Bush, and Obama already bow when they meet the Chinese leadership....Never thought i would see the day when on American flag it says Made in China

^ lol at the last bit... Thanks for sharing your experiences, it's making my decision much easier. Did you go to school there? One of my main concerns is that the American education system hasn't prepared me for Europe's standards

All of my family are British Citizens and now they all live there except me. I am the only one that decided to stay in America and try and work it out.

Just got my EU passport a few weeks ago. I'm looking into the UK...seems like there's quite a bit of work in my field. Again it is this ridiculous 10 year ban that makes what could be an exciting opportunity to something I don't want to do. I have some family that would be able to visit because they are legal here.

Basically I've been contemplating going back since 2008 but what's stopped me so far is mostly inertia, and that stupid foolish hope that something here will change. If someone had told me three years ago that there would be no Dream Act, no reform, no nothing, I would have certainly left by now. I've been in US 19 years now so leaving is a big step, but I wish I already had taken it.

Money is also an issue. Ideally I'd like to go to UK or Ireland without having to go back to my own country first, but I don't know anyone there.

For what its worth, as long as there is no unrest in your country, going back to an underdeveloped nation, with the knowledge of the English language and in most cases an American college degree, is far more advantageous than going to a country with a semi-decent mostly evolved economy where, in reality, you will be fighting for jobs with people who have degrees from prestigious schools all over Europe.

All I hear from my relatives these days is that my country is not what it use to be like and to some of the ones that have been here, it seems more Americanized than US itself, with the exception of availability of jobs. They all say that if I go back I'll find something but they cannot tell me what, while here if I had my papers I could get a job within a month of serious looking.

I got my BA in New York..I think a US degree in Europe is always a plus, but i THINK in EU of course education is a plus, but i think is more emphasis here on your skills/how smart you are....I have meet so many people in US with great degrees, but when they start a job the employer asks did you really go to college? Because you have no idea what the hell you are doing.

Alot of Irish dont have for example college degrees. But they make good money because they are smart, talented and clever

this is a real interesting thread, too bad the admins never make something permanent for those of us who have left, it would be a good way to learn about other places firsthand, since DA seems like its gonna drag out anyway, where where u from originally dreamact1982? did u have anyone u knew there originally when u left? what about going to other countries like canada etc for visit n stuff? the way i see it u have it much better than most of us still here, much more freedoms, and i bet the girls in ireland arent fat bloated sluts who think they deserve everything, or inbred retards for the ladies for that matter

Yeah that'd be kinda cool, something like a "Farewell" forum... or has anyone blogged about what they went through I wonder? I think I might do that since I've more or less decided to leave next January. Lately I've been feeling like I'm wasting my youth here. Could be building up a resume and making contacts but instead I'm stuck at a dead end job in which my boss will most likely deny he ever hired me lol
