Sure English is the most common but all languages should be welcomed.

I'm sorry but there is no excuse for people refusing to learn the language of a country they emigrated to. I speak 4 languages and it still annoys me when I see a family speaking Spanish at the store, when I know they're not tourists. It's just plain rude.

If your going to say something like that you might as well just of said,"learn Spanish". Which I'm saying not everyone wants to learn another language. You don't see any German, French or Chinese person saying there language should be fully recognized as a second language. One of my friends didn't get a job at Gold Gym because he didn't Spanish . Why do you need to know Spanish if you want to be an employee at a Gym? Also at times like when you go to a Fast Food restaurant you have to say your order so many times because the person only knows Spanish or someone has to help them that is like bilingual, it's really annoying. I'm sure you know some people who been here for like 20 years or maybe more and never learned how to speak English. I don't have a problem with someone not wanting to learn English but if you come here illegal or legally then it makes perfect sense to learn the language if you expecting to live successfully instead of making excusing not to. When my family came here we didn't complain about learning English. I know some Latino are going to be piss about my post but I'm stating my opinion on this. I just don't think it's fair because someone can't speak English you have to learn their language in America. If I was to learn my 3rd language it would probably be Mandarin Chinese or German just for the simple fact because I always wanted to. I just don't like being force to do certain things. I fogot to add this my girlfriend is from Switzerland she is Multilingual. She knows German, Swiss-German, English, and French. There was this job ad that said you had to bilingual to getthe job. So, she she knew more than2 we though she going to get it...then she applied to it but she didn't get it. Guess why lol
I see your problem, is not so much that you defend English but more like you envy the position Spanish holds in this country. Well that's just because of the number or Spanish Speakers on the Country. This is just part of the reality of the country. It's important not to project your insecurities onto other people. That's the main reason the only English group fight so much for this. They feel they are being invaded.

Finally the great majority of Spanish speakers have some ability with English. So I don't understand why people make such a big deal. As you can tell I have a better vocabulary that most Americans but I still like to be greeted on my language when I go to a restaurant or talk the chisme with the construction workers. Again I don't bother you in any way by keeping my language or culture.

I can assure there is no reason for me to envy Spanish. America has over 300 million people only like 30-40 million speaks Spanish thats 13%? So, because I think it's a pathetic lazy excuse that some people come here illegal or legal for like 20 years and not learn a bit of English makes me insecure? The only reason certain jobs would want you to speak Spanish is for MONEY nothing else. I have a couple of friends who came here illegal one is from Bosnia. His whole family made an effort to learn English, it's not great but you understand them just fine. It only seems to be like some Spanish family who come here refuse learn the main language which makes the Government force others to take Spanish classes just to increase GDP. I'm not going to speak on this further.

Come on now...if you go to live in a country, you should learn the main language. It's quite simple. You should be able to speak your own as well, but if you need services FROM THE GOVERNMENT that transaction should be done in English...just as it would be in Spanish in Mexico

there's 67 official tongues in Mexico besides Spanish. The government prints documentation and books (for education) in said tongues and distributes them according to geographical density.
