it should be doable. Registering a sole proprietorship/llc/or even corporation with your local/state business bureau. I'm sure it's just an ITIN you need.

Yes it can be done. The only thing you need to provide is your legal business name or your name (if you are working on your own with no business name), and, depending on the insurance company, a legal form of ID (yes, a valid passport works).

In my case, I just provided the business name and my name. They didn't ask for any documentation or IDs. Then again, I called the insurance agent once or twice and invited her to network with me (business networking events). I also invited her to lunch a couple times. By the time I purchased the policy, we were friends.

Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. Sides, I'm a strong believer of building a strong personal/business relationship with people in key fields (business attorneys, CPAs, insurance agents, etc). All of that can only benefit my business one way or another.

As far as getting a legal business name, it depends on where you are located. Most times you just have to register the name with the state (most states have a corporation commission of some sort - they all have different rules). A lot of times registering a trade name should be enough (you also do this with the state). Pro tip: Google "your state" corporation commission.

I run a business that provides a professional service (i.e. not retail or online).
