Hi,

As you may imagine, I am undocumented. I graduate from college in the Spring of 2012 and I wish to take the GRE so I can go on to a graduate school located in southern California (that is my location currently). I applied and paid to take the GRE in September and did not know that I had to have a passport on me to take the exam. I do not have a passport on me, I only have my Mexican matricula. I tried calling ETS but they said that I can't take the exam without a passport (unless I go back to Mexico and take it there). I am running out of hope and options and any help/advice given will be greatly appreciated.

Is there a Mexican consulate near you?

From what I've read on here you can get your Mexican passport if you have your matricula. Check with your local Mexican consulate.

Damn. I never realized that's the case. So much for the undocumented here who are from countries that won't renew passports after a certain point...

I went to pick up a passport yesterday, now I remember why I hate those places. I had to run back and forth like crazy.

I took my original BC but it wasn't accepted because they wanted a new ($$$) original BC. These new ones are red. Only had a HS ID so they wanted my transcripts sealed plus a picture on top with a stamp by the school. Since you have a matricula you'll probably just need your BC/matricula and 2 Pictures.

Finally got my passport, it took an hour or so (with all the papers in hand)

yep...new BC's are being issued by Mexico. The passport takes about 2 hrs to process if you go early.
