My parents had Georgia licenses many years ago and got into an accident in NY. Someone crashed into them and so when the police came they just made a police report.

In your mom's case....the accident wasn't her fault, but now that Georgia has gotten pretty strict with everything. They probably want to know why your mom has an expired license so that is what the court date for.

Its best if your mom avoids driving for a while....it would be pretty bad if she got pulled over before the court date.

Jeez ... what a bunch of jerks. accident not her fault and they tow her car! unbelievable ...

I suggest a lawyer - unfortunately - try a free legal clinic.

Also, unfortunately I found this: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/10/us...pagewanted=all

I really suggest a lawyer - right away.

I'll tell you what happened to my mother. Last year she was pulled over, written a ticket for driving without a license. We had a family friend come and drive her car back so it wasn't impounded by the officer. She went to court, paid the $750.00 and was released after she was finger printed, etc. She was at the county jail for about an hour after court.

Our county is not apart of 287g. So, our lawyer said that she didn't have anything to worry about. He told her to disclose nothing, but if asked anything DO NOT lie.

Check your inbox. I sent you info on a lawyer.

A good friend of mine - dreamer was picked up for possession (I know totally not the same as accident / driving - simply relating what happened) . The cops wrote a ticket for him - no fingerprints. The problem was that apparently after you go to court they "book" you. He hired a lawyer - $2K - the lawyer at the very first court appt filed several motions and the prosecutor gave him diversion which meant he had to go to several dozen - about 50 Narcotics Anonymous meetings and write an essay about his experience. Then the entire thing was dismissed - no booking, no fingerprints - but $2K in the hole. His fault though ... and he understands that.
