I've only had one place (a bar) not let me in to the bar/buy booze because i had a matricula. I was kinda pissed but I just made sure to let the door guy know that there was a ton of us going out to drink that night and he had just cost the bar a ton of money. Made a call to some people already inside and they filed out within two minutes. It felt good to know that I had some power over that bar, as I was a goddamn paying customer. there are so many other places to drink in Chicago that i didn't really care. I mean hell, i'm almost thirty, i don't look like i'm sixteen.

this one time (didnt have anything to do with id but still), i went out to eat at Steak N Shake out in the burbs (Naperville on Route 59, that place sucks, but its suburbia so not much to choose from), and our waitress lady brought us our check. Our bill was like $13 so i just left a $20 and walked out with a friend. As I'm getting to my car, manager comes out yelling after me that i didn't pay my bill. how fucking embarrassing. I responded, "did you check the table?". her response: "oh". nothing else. no "i'm sorry", nothing. she just went back inside. I was fuming. no way would she have done that if i was a white kid from suburbia. I went back inside and demanded that i get my change back from the $20. no $7 (54%) tip to the waitress. I then called corporate and explained everything. About a month later, I got a letter in the mail from Steak N Shake corporate that the manager had been reprimanded (I highly doubt that, but i really hope she got suspended for a week or more, bitch.) .

end rant.

but did they really accept your marticula before?

by any chance does anyone know if supermarkets or if liquor stores in southern cali especially around the san fernando valley accept marticulas or passports to buy alcohol?
yeah the only form of ID I had before was my matricula so If I bought alcohol i had to show them that and they didnt give me any trouble before until this happened, but what the hell a passport is way more official than a matricula. it feels like i wasted 100 bucks on my passport

Yeah bro. virtually ANY liquor store will accept your matricula, as far as the supermarkets go, try the hispanic oriented ones such as, La Vallarta (the biggest in cali), El Super, Superior, El Gigante, and sometimes Food-4-Less. What neighborhood do you live in? You probably will not have much luck with Sav-On, Albertsons, Ralphs,Vons. I have done it at Costco though.

Obsolete is right on. It's SO CAL....or SFV haha what store hasn't run into people with Matriculas or Passports. But like he said, you will have no issues at the hispanic stores. That being said, I've had no issues at Stater Bros, Ralphs or CVS Pharmacy. Don't go in there looking like a total goof and when they ask for ID, just pull it out with confidence. Depending on the store (Staters has started doing this), the regular cashier has to take it to a manager to get it "verified" (idk why, its not like they can see any diff info than you can), but if you're over 21, you're golden. And don't forget to smile and be polite!

Since the Matricula has the date of birth in spanish, some stores give me shit sometimes but I always explain them and never really had much trouble.
