Weird, I have a Chase bank account without a SSN... What state are you in?

Just for reference, my dad also applied for a business account at chase and got approved. Also, for those of you who are looking for a loan:

http://www.progressfin.com/

You basically have to show four bank statements where it says your money is moving, you also need to have an income of more than $500 USD per month and you'll be granted a $1,000 loan. You spend it, make payments, and you are guaranteed to start building your credit history. In about a year you'll be able to get a $2,500 loan. I don't know if they offer this "service" in states other than Texas.

Also, here is the webpage to apply for an itin

You are able to obtain a bank account with chase even if you don't have a social security. I have one, the problem is trying to obtain a credit card or loan, they don't offer that anymore without a social.

So what banks do? I need a loan for school (5k). I have had a valid bank account for over 3 years and a ITIN, no overdrafts, and a stable income.

So after applying for a capital one credit card and putting my ITIN in place of a social, I received a letter stating they needed verification of a social security number. I called and they told me they could accept a DL ( don't have one ), a bank statement, or a 1099 as proof.. Has anyone gone though this? As usual the representative didn't seem to understand my question.

hmmm... that's weird. I just got my Capital One Card (maybe four months ago?) and the rep I talked to when I activated my card knew what an ITIN was. Maybe call back and get a different rep? I didn't have to go through the verification stuff though, as I was accepted when I applied online.

Well I tried the capital one secured card spoke to a different rep. He said yes and took my bank account info to draft the $49. It hasn't been drafted from my account. I called back spoke to a different rep who spoke to a supervisor who said no. The rep told me to cross my fingers, think positive, and that maybe the secured card will go through. I keep getting reps that are misinformed because if you can't use an ITIN why does it show up when enrolling in online banking as info you will need.

The sad reality is that this whole ITIN thing is such a gray area that most bankers and financial companies are lost. I worked for a credit union for a year and in there I found out that when banks check their list they are checking to see if you are in a bad list not looking for your name in a good list. So technically they can put your ITIN no problem. The problem are reps that are super scared of messing something or managers who are ignorant or racist. Our security manager for the credit union hated Illegals as he call them and he fought every time we serve one. But in our case we served the union and he had no choice but to include those that the union send. The funniest thing is that as much as he check he could not figure out that I was one of them. This system has more holes that most imagine.

Okay, I've read all these threads about ITIN's. My husband has an ITIN. I wanted to build his credit, so that when we bought a house, him not having any wouldn't effect my score, because you know when you are married if one has great credit and the other has, well none or is crap, it brings the good score down, or so I was told. Any ways, My husband has our Electric, Phone, A Vehicle, 1 gas card and 1 credit card for emergenies all in his name using his ITIN. The catch was that he couldn't apply online, he had to call the electric, phone, and cc people to obtain this. Now with the vehicle, he found a buy here pay here place, which where we live it's mostly those, and found a really really nice vehicle and they financed him.

So you can obtain things, just most of the time you have to call on the phone. The only ppl to have asked to see his actual ITIN was the place for the vehicle. Oh and he recently got a bank account with Bank of America. He did the application online for a e-checking account; which is an online bank account with NO fees if you use direct deposit or deposit your money through the ATM, but he had to call after he did the application to verify his ITIN number. They told him they wanted to make sure it was him using his own ITIN, but never asked him to see a copy of it.

From my understanding, however, you do build credit, and I recently received my free annual credit report by mailing in the application, as opposed to doing it online. The only credit company that sent it to me was Experian. Transunion and Equifax both requested proof of SSN. It's just a report of your credit payment history, however. To get the score, Experian indicated that proof of SSN was needed.
Capital One approved my application, then they require a state issued ID.
I was able to meet all other required documents but since I only had a valid passport they denied it. I ended up in a local branch and spoke with a branch manager.
She was very polite but after talking to the credit card department over the phone, she didn't have any authority to approve without a state/federal issued ID. Her suggestion was to obtain debit card first because they only require an ID, build up some sort of trust between the bank and then issue the credit card because they won't ask for my state ID...

sounds ridiculous?
