FAQ: Can immigrants with ITIN numbers access free credit reports?

Yes, but it is not so easy. Consumers without SSN cannot request copies of their credit report online - neither at www.annualcreditreport.com nor directly from credit bureaus. Consumers without a SSN can print and manually complete the application - with their ITIN number in place of the SSN - and mail it in as a written request. If the credit bureau is able to match the consumer application with a consumer in their files, they will mail the consumer a copy of their credit report.

Here is the link to the form:
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/order?mail

1. Scroll a bit down and click on "request form"
2. Print form and fill it out.
3. Mail the completed form to:

Annual Credit Report Request Service
P.O. Box 105281
Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

I've done this with my ITIN, by mailing in the report. If they find a match, they will issue you a report of your credit history, but you will not get a score. It's useful for checking your report for open accounts/errors, etc though. To get the actual score, they request further proof of SSN.

I remember dreamers in the past mentioning getting their actual score by obtaining secured credit cards from companies such as Capital one, where an annual credit report is a perk of being a part of the program. I haven't tried that method though.
