Solis: Rubio's DREAM Act is 'half-cooked'

Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis called Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-Fla.) alternative to the DREAM Act "half-cooked" — noting that it provides no pathway to citizenship.

President Obama made another push Thursday at a Cinco de Mayo event at the White House, calling on Congress to take up the DREAM Act — a bill that would provide a pathway to citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants.

"I don't hear any [Republican] members except for Sen. Rubio coming forward — talking about a proposal that's half cooked," Solis said on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports."

Rubio's proposal, not yet a bill, allows the children of illegal immigrants to stay in the country and earn their residency, but it does not provide a pathway to citizenship. Rubio, himself a Cuban-American, is nevertheless the highest profile Republican supporter on immigration reform and a key figure in helping to improve the GOP's image among Hispanics.

"His notion of the DREAM Act would only provide you with residency and the ability to stay, go to school but not lead to a path to citizenship," Solis said.

Solis blamed the Republicans for the gridlock over Obama's preferred version of the DREAM Act, saying that "I think the public knows where the real stalemate is."

"We don't have any players on the other side of the aisle going forward," Solis said. "That doesn't mean that we're going to give up because we're still going to be resilient."

Democrats are convinced that GOP rhetoric on immigration, support for state-level anti-immigrant measures and their widespread abandonment of comprehensive immigration reform will hurt them among Hispanic voters in November.
UPDATE: A Rubio spokesman emails: "We just don't create a new or special pathway to citizenship. Kids who qualify for Sen. Rubio's plan could eventually apply for residency and citizenship using the existing pathways
."

It seems to be getting ever more dramatic in the states. The battle field is being marked yet already for a legislative act not even yet bred. Thoughts?

Well, if Solis doesn't like Rubio's idea, she can pay for our bills and schooling, so our asses don't get frustrated and leave and that way Dems. can wait until they pass the version they want.

<^> (0_0) <^>

If Dems vote against something that is fair and benefits the majority of us, fuck them.

People need to shut up with the path to citizenship bs, most dreamers here are willing to take a TPS let alone a non-immigrant visa.

Great here we go, Hilda Solis, another Obama spokesperson that he hopes the Hispanic community will listen to so that people can vote for him once again. Lady, unless you're Undocumented like I am, your opinion does not matter, keep it moving!

Hmmmm...I think of all of Obama's mouthpieces, including this one (Solis), the one that really, really grates me is that ridiculous woman he bought off the Council of La Raza, Cecilia Munoz. And after reading that she tried to convince the Dreamers she met, not to support any legislative progess for Dream Act beneficiaries, I just cannot handle this much hypocrisy.

Obama's DHS and DOJ deny prosecutorial discretion to people rooted in this country for decades; continue to racial-profile Hispanics, then go after them like dogs in court; Federal Circuit Judges in the 9th circuit rule that adminstrative closure for non-criminal "aliens" is ridiculous, while the administration was cooking such f***king policy behind closed doors; and to top it off, they want Dreamers to continue to wait and be perpetual students and "kids".

News to everyone here and elsewhere, a 30 yr-old man or woman is NOT A KID. Many Dreamers have not pursued higher education or cannot afford higher education; many Dreamers are parents and the PURPOSE of the Dream Act is to gain residency through the pursuit of education. To believe that DAP is representative of Dreamers is a delusion, 2000+ members is nothing compared to the close to 2 million estimated DA beneficiaries. Half-cooked is the idea that a Dreamer will age out of any relief when Obama and the Dems won't lift a finger to pass legislation that protects from removal and grants temporary relief to people rooted in this country.

-Theres a much better word for her then BITCH but im sure ill get banned for using it.
-My parents and i have said this since the beginning of the DREAM ACT and ill say it again since people are finally getting a clue. We don't need a path to Citizenship. This BITCH and others like her need to stop all their hypocrisy and let us define our own limits.
-That which is a win for us is a lose for these super activist types but like stated above these super activist / glorified and misguided representatives for our case aren't the ones in our shoes instead they sit and dine at the same table as all those defining these policies (No equal representation for us).
-We as a class of Americans need to mute her and others like her before they become our kryptonite.

Dear guests, if you don't like the way that we carry ourselves, please do, f*ck off, sir.
Very true, the Dreamers that I've seen on TV have always been polite and good kids, yet SOME people still had mean-spirited comments, so it really doesn't matter. Like I said in the thread about the idiot LA mayor, we need to contact these people to set them straight. I would personally take any legal status with a smile on my face. Hilda Solis wants to protect me from that, bless her; she prefers to grandstand so we don't get anything at all and the Democratic Party continues to pretend they care about us to win elections.

so then if Marco Rubio's bill passes, you won't sign up and you would prefer to stay illegal right?
Come on now it is straight politics. The democrats don't want anything to pass that way they can keep blaming republicans and making an election issue of it.
