Hi there,
I´m new here and even though I´m not a Dreamer like you guys I still am a dreamer.
What I am dreaming of?
An amnesty law.
I am from Mid-Europe and live in Nevada for almost two years, came here on a tourist visa (Visa Waiver Program) but overstayed.
Now I´m living in a roommate situation but my roomie doesn´t really know about my immigration status and he doesn´t really care.
I do have a small monthly income in my home country that is right about enough to survive.
Additionally I opened up a bank (checkings and savings) account at Wells Fargo but still haven´t applied for an ITIN.
But it looks like I´m gonna have to do that because I need to have a little more money to live my dream and want to be fair and pay taxes.
So what is my dream in the US (besides amnesty)?
Next thing I´m planning is to work as a freelance translator. I also want to go to New Mexico to apply for a DL.
I do have a passport (valid until 2019) and a European DL (no expiration date!!! Really!!!) so I should be good to go.
After that I want to go to NYC and be a part of the awesome melting pot!
I was over there before I decided to stay here and NYC was the city that convinced me that I was right for the US.
And even after almost two years now it still feels right but I do have to get out of Nevada because even though I have never been questioned or just asked I think it´s saver in a city like NYC.
My luck is that I am from a wealthy country and people trust me because of where I´m from (I´ve seen that several times: if you´re from south america or asia people are suspicious but when I tell them where I´m from they welcome me open handed!).

But I do have a lot of questions and even though I am not a Dreamer like you guys I think we have a lot in common so I hope I find answers here.
In exchange I´ll try to help you too if I can.

Thank you for reading

Sounds like you're all set though with everything that you need as you are welcomed everywhere you go, so what is the problem?

As long as I can´t legally work and have to worry even a bit that I might be deported I´m not set.
Maybe I was just lucky to be welcomed everywhere I went and it can change pretty fast like the guy in LA who got deported by ICS when he was working at a market. I always thought LA is a sanctuary city so stuff like that wouldn´t happen over there. But that proved me wrong.
I still am careful and f.e. didn´t know it´s safer to fly than take a bus or Amtrak. I would´ve taken the Greyhound from Vegas to New Mexico if I hadn´t read here it´s safer to fly and I´m sure there´s a lot more for me to learn.
You never stop learning...

Hi, NoDreamer. Welcome to DAP.

Do you have any family members from your initial country? You're best bet may be to go back. And than apply from there.

The process would be much similar. (And faster) Than applying from within the USA.

Hello Sirius,
that´s not an option anymore. If I went back I couldn´t come back to the US for 10 years (I´m here for almost two years now). That´s too long - I´m not the youngest anymore - and so I made my decision. When I decide something I stick with it (as long I have the chance to do it). There would be no difference for me if I went out of the US or if I got kicked out.
And chances are too high my application won´t be accepted.

For me it´s way cheaper over here and even though I don´t have a lot of money I do have enough to survive (I´ve never been a big spender anyway). Where I´m coming from I most likely would have to apply for wellfare and I don´t wanna do that. Here I can live off the money I already get from my home country.
Now I even got my first job as a translator over here so it looks like it´s gonna be more money in the future if it works out.

I do have my whole family in my home country and they enourage and support me to do this.

thats an interesting story it would be nice if you would fill in more as to why you decided on some stuff, first thing, howd u end up in nevada of all places? and what about california bc i hear its really nice places like SF are much nicer i hear than NY and also the police is on your side there, unlike in NY,

also, some of the members here have gone to europe since they couldn't continue to live here bc of status and the limits, i remember 2 that went to UK and not regretting it one bit or the way of life there, would it be too much to ask where ur from? i dont think that would id you too much by revealing it im just curious bc we always hear here how those in europe are doing so much better

finally, you seem to really like it here unlike alot of us here stuck bc of the limits like driving etc (doesnt nevada or utah have dl for aliens? btw remember nm has checkpoints) could you tell us why you seem to like it here so much vs over in europe where you had all your freedoms? and more so if you say you came from a wealthy country which must have a nice standard of living, welfare is not awesome but its to get back on your feet, in the US we have many in poverty and homeless, but i do agree US is much cheaper than EU
\
finally i recommend seeing if you can get in touch with ethnic communities of your home country in Nevada (or cali) they will be the most likely to help you out since you're alone here, and stay out of legal troubles at all costs, the US has implications much deeper than in US for simple things and there is now secure communities activated practically everywhere deporting people like us is big money these days
