Hey everyone,

I need some help. I am applying to jobs for the first time, and I have an interview coming up with a small education center where students get tutoring.

How can the employer pay me? I know that some of you have ITINs, so you can do the independent contractor route. However, to obtain an ITIN, I would have to turn in an application along with a tax return. How can I do a tax return (and get an ITIN) if I have not had any income to report yet?

How can the employer pay me without having an ITIN on file?

Thanks! No, not yet. I will have an interview soon, so this is why I am asking in advance. I hope it works out!

Well... if this job requires an interview, I'm pretty sure they don't hire undocumented people. But good luck.

The independent contractor route is where you are hired by the employer as a "contractor" rather than an employee of the company. Usually you are doing a service for them for a short period. You can provide the employer with an ITIN instead of a SSN when they ask you to fill out the W-9 form.

First, you will need an ITIN though...
