"But if, in fact, somebody who does not belong in this country is in Arizona, Arizona has no power?" the incredulous Scalia asked. "Are you objecting to harassing the — the people who have no business being here? Surely you're not concerned about harassing them?"

Oh, and Fuck You Mr. President. All this shit would not be happening now had you pushed your party to do something in terms of CIR in the first two years of your term.

I have a question, if the SB1070 Law is upheld by the supreme court, does that mean that states are allowed to create their own immigration laws? if so, can Utah and California issue work permits?

Pretty much it would mean anarchy and a new framework on immigration policy, but I would highly doubt if any state would issue work permits, just because that would just drive even more undocumented residents into that state and overburden more social services. Think about it, if you're the california gov, do you really want all the southwestern undocumented immigrants to flood in your state, as well as millions more south of the border? More likely, over 16 states pass their own version of sb 1070 and it's game over.

Then . . . working would most likely still be an issue. States would give us special dls that distinguish us from USCs or legal residents--most likely.

I don't care what happens with SB1070. Sooner or later the whole country will declare open season on illegals....especially Mexicans.

If Obama doesn't sign an EO based on Rubio's bill, it's all over for the next 4 years.

(I say through Rubio's bill because I highly doubt he will consider giving an EO using the original Dream Act)

Well thats a good point about declaring their own laws. States might be able to pass a resident of the state version of the Dream Act or Immigration Reform requiring things like been in the state for at least 5-10 years without ever living somewhere else. I would assume we would prove that with school transcripts and maybe medical records or even dmv records. But the states gotta have the balls to try it and the only ones which might are CA and NY.

that may be true, however having a valid identification is very valuable still. We may not able to use it to get a job but the opportunities that a state i.d. can offer is great. We can do alot with it.
