What is Real ID?
The Real ID Act was passed by the Congress and signed into law on May 11, 2005 by former President George Bush.
The Real ID Act provides that, after a certain date, a federal agency is prohibited from accepting for any “official purpose,” a driver’s license or identification card issued by a State to any person that did not meet the requirements of the Real ID Act.
Official purposes, under current law, means “accessing Federal facilities, boarding Federally-regulated commercial aircraft and entering nuclear power plants.”

When will the law go into effect?
January, 2013.

Do I need to get a passport to fly starting Jan 1, 2010?
No. Your Driver’s License will be sufficient for domestic flights until January, 2013.

This is only getting worst, i think im getting more depressed by the minute
I knew of the Law, but since it was passed such long time ago i had not put much thought lately to it till now.
So supposedly you will not be able to open bank accounts without it neither.
What about the folks with current drivers licenses from WA or New Mexico will they be required to switch to the Real ID or will their DL get canceled or something?
Will you still be able to drive around with it if your able to keep it? just not be able to get on domestic air flights, open bank accounts etc etc

I imagine cops are gonna be bullshitting more if you dont have a Real ID, also if your driving accross state lines might even be more a pain, it might even be harder for folks to find a job than it already is.

It might be a good time for me to consider moving back to Costa Rica

^^^ See guys, information like this is why I keep insisting that Obama sign an EO for us BEFORE the elections, if not, life will get even harder for us. If the Dream Act doesn't pass BEFORE the November elections, AND if Obama hasn't signed an EO on our behalves for Relief BEFORE then, do not encourage your USC friends and relatives to vote for him. He needs to prove to us that he cares about our present hardships before people give him their votes.

Absolutely! This article shows that we don't have that much time left before things get even more unbearable for us. Obama has to make us a priority if not, he doesn't deserve the votes of those that care about us, as all they'll see is us suffering even more hardshiships.

Yup. You know what kind of bothers me? Obama mentions patience in relating our movement to the civil rights movement of the 1960s. BUT, a difference is that those people had the means to nourish themselves. Those means were limited, but they had the means nonetheless. They had the right to work and, thus, nourish themselves. We don't have shit. And, my patience is going fucking thin. My parents and I need to pay for housing, food, utilities, etc. And, the fact that we cannot find steady sources of income is fucking killing us slowly.

Please don't compare yourself, or "Dreamers" for that matter to Black American Citizens. Our parents had a choice to brng us to this country, we made a chocie to stay.

REAL ID has already passed though, it passed in 2005. This is a provision that WILL go into effect on Jan,1,2013. No question marks, no doubts. Don't just stand there and dismiss it as speculation. Get PREPARED. I'm sorry but it seems like America is going to hell in a handbasket, for the older dreamers please do everything in your power to get out as is convenient. Plus Obama already delayed the law's implementation in 2011 and got attacked for it, he won't be able to do it again, that is if he's even re-elected which I'm starting to doubt.

As stated above this is no speculation, Check the mvd sites for WA and NM they already mention that starting January 2013 Real ID will be implemented and will be replacing their DL.

Great points! We unfortunately have a weak support system, not as strong and connected as the Civil Rights movement did, so any further hardships will be a terrible blow to us. This is so frustrating I tell ya.'
