A couple of years ago, I was driving (without a license obviously; I did get a permit in high school though.)
I got in an accident, I showed the cops my expired permit. They impounded our car. We told the insurance company that my dad was driving, so we wouldn't have to pay as much. And I even had to go to court. I pleaded guilty for driving without a license. But the judge didn't ask as to why I dont have my license yet.

Would that be considered a significant misdemeanor?

Note: That was the only time I have ever been caught by the police (in my 5 years of driving.) I did get a ticket once, but I had a valid permit, and a parent beside me.

This happened in Illinois.

A significant misdemeanor is a federal, state, or local criminal offense punishable by no more than one year of imprisonment or even no imprisonment that involves: violence, threats, or assault, including domestic violence; sexual abuse or exploitation; burglary, larceny, or fraud; driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; obstruction of justice or bribery; unlawful flight from arrest, prosecution, or the scene of an accident; unlawful possession or use of a firearm; drug distribution or trafficking; or unlawful possession of drugs.
(If it's not any of these listed about you should be fine but just to be safe you should get this process done through a lawyer.)

I will. Lawyers are expensive as hell though.
