Hey! I'm hoping someone on here can help me out. I recently aplied to a school in New Orleans that has an open admission policy. At the end of the end of their application page they have a statement saying that they do not discriminate against race, gender, citizenship, etc. When asked if I was citizen, they only had three choices, citizen, permanent resident, or foreign student. A visa wasn't asteriked as needed only a social so I submitted my ITIN number and selected I was a foreign student.. Technically I am a foreigner and I am a student(trying to be at least) I received a phone call today saying that if I didnt have a visa they couldn't take me. I asked about their no discrimination policy on citizenship and stated that nowhere on the application did they say that. I've never gone to college because of this exact same fear(fear of being rejected due to my status. I'm 23, employed, and super successful in the animal field. I have the means to work and haven't suffered problems, but I want to get my Biology degree. What can I do? Is there any point in pleading with the University or should I try elsewhere?oic

From my experience, I've learned that we are not considered 'foreign students'. Try calling again and say that you are an undocumented DreamAct-eligible student.

Yeah call back. I'm not sure what the law in your state is but here in Texas we are in a different category. Usually, my paperwork says HB 1403 or SB 1528.

If this school rejected you, try another one.

Sounds like they didn't outright reject you. They see you as foreign student, and with all foreign students acceptance to a school is not a guarantee of a student visa (so if you were denied a student visa they could revoke your acceptance). I would suggest calling them up and explaining that you cannot apply for a student visa (you are ineligible), and see what they say.

It's like they're daring you to lie about your status.
