How does one talk their way out of a background check? I've got really good references. I just don't know how to say that I'm not comfortable with background checks without sounding overly suspicious to someone.

What is the backcheck ground about? Are they checking for past criminal records? Anything else?

You can't talk out of this one.

It's mandatory. But just because I'm curious, why do you want to opt out?

Need it for a job. Being in the limbo situation I'm in I can't provide the information for them to run one.
I guess they just need it to make sure I haven't done anything wrong.

^Oh I think we were thinking of the mandatory background check for the EAD. I don't think you would be able to talk your way out of one for work. Just taking a class at the local hospital requires a background check. It's mostly for safety reasons.

Well if it's of any difference the job isn't for a company. It's just a simple babysitting gig. Seems odd to ask for background check just to babysit. I can understand the need for one if you're a nanny but I can't sympathize for one if it's just babysitting. O.o

If you have an iTin, you can give them that number and it actually works.

Or you can just say the truth and tell them you don't have a SSN right now but will in "a few months"

I do have an iTin number... but it seems unlawful. How exactly would that work? Doesn't a background check say the name of the person it belongs to?
