What is Selective Service?
- is a means by which the United States government maintains information on those potentially subject to military conscription. Most male U.S. citizens and male immigrant non-citizens between the ages of 18 and 25 are required by law to have registered within 30 days of their 18th birthdays and must notify Selective Service within ten days of any changes to any of the information they provided on their registration cards, like a change of address.

What is it required for?
Registration for Selective Service is also required for various federal programs and benefits, including student loans, job training, federal employment, and naturalization.

Naturalization?
Naturalization is the acquisition of citizenship and nationality by somebody who was not a citizen of that country at the time of birth.

What does that have to do with Dream Act?
Dream Act can be considered a form of pathway if passed, eventually it is a path way to citizenship meaning it's a form of naturalization.

Do I need it?
See first question and if you want to benefit to Dream Act or CIR.

Does DACA require it?
Not yet sure til August 15, 2012 where the details will be released.

So if not sure if required then why?
This is considered part of:
"The alien maintained good moral character." clause of the Dream Act.

Am I going to jail if I apply?
As long as you apply you won't be sent to jail unless you are found out to not have signed.

How does one get a copy of your card if already registered?

What of those dreamers past 26? Too old for the draft?

The card comes in the mail.. or I don't understand your question. I made a photocopy of mine just in case.

Men with "green cards" must register. Men living in the U.S. without INS documentation (undocumented aliens) must also register. Men cannot register after reaching age 26.

You call them up and ask them for a new card. I did that a few weeks ago and it took about five minutes.

The dreamers past 26 are kind of screwed if they didn't register in time.

I sent my card in the mail sometime in late June, I think the 24th. Since you just got yours today, I hope that means I will be getting mine soon, since we sent in the application a few days apart. May I ask which state you are from?

I really really need the SSS card for financial aid as well (California Dream Act). The CSU I am attending is allowing me to turn in verification of being signed up for the Selective Service anytime I get the card. So hopefully soon!
