i just called USCIS
and they said it's correct to put the home country and not the US
because that is where i can reside legally
and they said the only time you put another country is lets say
you were born in mexico but moved to peru and have legal status there
and move here, you would put peru as the answer to question number 9

Really? Wow.
I hope they realize that people misinterpreted it and so will recognize that from looking at the evidence and addresses presented.

Damn that means we all answered it incorrectly. O_O That sucks. Hopefully they won't disqualify us all by claiming we lied on our applications =/ Uh Oh.

I just got off the phone with uscis and the lady told me that you should put the country where you currently reside.

LOL at this point, who the hell knows.
There are Clearly TWO answers to this question! hahaha.
It must not be a very important question if USCIS doesnt even know what to put ...

I agree with you, but others here came down hard on me. Since it's a legal form, residence implies where you have legal residence. Not to mention, the question was also grouped with other ones about an applicant's place of origin.

I guess not even USCIS knows. And the reasoning in the reference above does not give any credence to correctness of the form.

"Make sure that for country of residence, you pick the United States, because that is where you should be living in order to be qualify."

You are not suppose to fill out the form on a basis to qualify. You are suppose to fill it out on the basis of your personal information and evidence.

Nope. I put my country of legal residence. Guess I'm the oddball out.

The exhibits/required evidence asks for proof that the applicant was present in the US on Aug 15. and at the time of applying. If an applicant proves that exhibit, then country of residence should not disqualify said applicant.
