My relative went 3 times before and they were all the same procedure.
Show your I-797C with Appt time, Show ID
Fill a form with basic info.
Wait in line.
Scan your fingers
Take pic
Sign
If this was a normal process your EAD would be produce no more than 2 weeks after that.
The pic they take their is for your EAD card, also the signature.
