The only sort-of complication in my case is my name and I want to know what do you think or what suggestions you may have. The short background story: My dear parentals decided to name me after my mommy and give me all of her lovely three names. So my legal name, as is on my birth certificate and my passport, consists of FIVE names.

Now on to the complication,

My first name is misspelled in some important records I definitely want to include in my package. Personally, I don't think it would be that big of a deal given that is just one extra letter. (Most commonly the name is spelled with a "th", my name has no H.) Big deal or not?

Now the really complicated part and the one I don't know what to do with is the records that I have with the name I go by instead of my first name. (i.e. award certificates, receipts). The name I have gone by my entire life is a shorten version of my third name. I will definitely include this on the Other names used part of the application. What I can't decide on what to do is if I should include the documents where that other name is used or just avoid them and keep things simple. A lawyer suggested to include an affidavit explaining the name as my identity. Lawyer did not mention anything about yay or nay on including the records

I feel so cheesy on including this but it's just like in Gilmore Girls. They're both named Lorelai but daughter is Rory and there's always confusion with the names.

This is just something I can't make up my mind about. There's just such insistence on ALWAYS writing your name exactly the same way every single time on all your documents. I mean, it would be breezy if my name was X Y but it's X A B Y Z. And I don't think it's ever spelled the same. Like sometimes is X A(dot) Y. Sometimes, X A Y Z. Sometimes X (spelled wrong) Y. Sometimes, X B Y. And rarely C Y. I mean... see what I mean?

TL;DR

Legal name = X A B Y Z
Commonly used name = C Y
To affidavit or not to affidavit?

My problem is a bit similar as yours - I attended school with a completely different first name. So my school transcripts and medical records all have my non legal name. I went to see a top immigration lawyer regarding this, and he told me he doesn't think it will be a big deal as long as you have no criminal background. I haven't been approved or anything, but we'll see if I come across any problems.

As far as your mispelled name, I don't think its a big deal. Just explain it somewhere.

With regards to your other name, if you have enough proofs under your legal name, I suggest you just use all that and list the name you go by on other names used. Simple is always better, and it will require less explanation.

If, on the other end you need to use documents containing your other name, then you should include an affidavit. Along with evidence that you are the same person.

In my case, as suggested by my lawyer, I included a notarized affidavit from myself and one of my parents explaining my different names. The affidavit is commonly known as "One and same person affidavit." You can find many examples online.
I basically explained the different names on my documents and how the name came about etc. And included evidences such as school ID, medical records showing my date of birth, etc. I only did this because I had no choice since a lot of my important documents were under my other name.

The first question that you ought to ask those people is why aren't you spelling my name properly. ? I personally don't think it should be a problem. I sent docs with all my two names and two last names, some docs with a name and a last name , docs with both names and one last name. So quite an array of variations.

Right??? I so often ask my mom "Why? WHYYYY did you do this to me?!?!" What was so hard about a five letter name?? Instead I have to ramble on and on about my name.

I wouldnt worry about it. My sister is in the exact situation and a lawyer said its not really a big deal. Thry can use context clues to figure out those are your names.

they will likely take a look at your birthdate and if it matches you should be ok as long as mispelling is only one letter. you can always try to explain it if makes you feel better.

I thought there was a place on the application where they ask you to list all the other possible names you've used in the past.
