When i first started college, i didn't register with my full name, until later i realised I needed to for some reason i already forgot. Any who when i needed to take my birth certificate to school and ask for a name change the lady asked me for my SSN, i felt pretty much uncomfortable because their were students behind me and i told her i didn't have one.

She was nice and all, but damn why couldn't she keep her voice low, she said it out loud, "you don't have a social security number!?" and everyone looked at me lol Anyways i got that done.

This semester when everyone needed to get a new school ID at the office, my friend was going with me so i can get it. She told me on our way that they ask for an SSN again, (last semester they gave you the option of telling them ur school id number or SSN) now you had no choice. So i panicked a little. I must have gotten lucky because the girl was dieing to go pee and i told her i had an old one, and took it and asked if i wanted a new pic or the same one, any who i want asked for "my" SSN. *phew*

Anyways now that i need to get a transcript to send as proof that I've been here after high school, they charge you $5 to print it out! WTF. I went on Tuesday, asked, i said another day because i didn't have money with me...so i have to go tomorrow. That day on tues. i noticed the girl was taking out a form with the pink copy under (to keep for themselves) for me to fill as well. why? -.- SO i'm wondering if they will ask for my SSN for that too. GRRRR.

Question is: Has anyone ever encountered similar situations? if so what did you guys tell the people and how did they respond? LOL mine always give me a blank stare

Aww hahaha sorry this reminded me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9hicA-q250

Anyways yea I've been through that and it can be really awkward.....lol I would even freak out when I was younger I just wanted to dig a hole in the ground and stick my head in there or wear a brown paper bag over my head...haha

I actually tried my best to make sure no one else is around...cause that makes it a lil bit easier. Then I would just go ahead and say it. Blush, and look down like an idiot.

But recently I've felt more confident and realized that my status in this country should not make me feel any less or embarrassed. Because I'm sure everyone has gone through something in life that they had no control over.

Example: I went to my county's court downtown to ask for a background check (I was told to do that by an ngo) and the lady that asked for my information wasn't rude at all. She asked for my name, and an Id. I gave her my matricula then she asked me if I had a social and I said very clearly "No ma'm" with all the confidence in the world. lol

I always laugh afterwards when anything happens cause well what else could we do about it? Cry? Nah.

My school just assigns undocumented and international students 9 digit ID numbers. They ask you for social you just give them that.
