I went to get my biometrics done yesterday and the form they ask you to fill out asked for my last name. I only put my paternal last name in hopes of dropping my second last name. However, in the "other names" section, I did put my maternal last name.

So when I went up to the lady to check my form, she actually filled in the maternal name where I had purposely left it out.

Oh well.
I actually did as well and even tried talking the guy who did my biometrics to change the name by showing him my school ID. He said the center doesn't have the capacity to change information which I found hard to believe because the computer had all my info pre-filled. All he had to do was delete a few letters.

Like you said: Oh well.

How did you fill out your i821d and i765? I only put my full name under "other names used" and when I got my receipts and biometrics appointment, they came under only my paternal name. At my biometrics appointment, nobody said anything.

This was probably my mistake, but I added both because my Matricula had both so I didn't want to throw things off. It was my attempt in biometrics to get it to list with my paternal name only. Hopefully when I get my DMW ID, I can get the person to only put my paternal name.

Why is everyone so desperate to get rid of their maternal last name?

I'll admit I've thought about it myself but the more I did, the more ridiculous I thought it was. Why would I want to get rid of something that I was born with.

Is it just because you're all too lazy to write out that extra name?

Maybe it's just me but I love having both my dad and my mother's last name.

Because no one uses two last names here in the U.S....

And no one likes having long ass names.

BC then I would have to go back and change everything. If everything is under my paternal last name, why not just keep it going that way?

Guess I just don't see the big deal in keeping my maternal last name. So what if that's not the norm here in the U.S.? I don't mind writing out all 28 letters of my complete name. I like to write anyway.

Just because you have two last names doesn't mean you have to say them when you meet someone. I never even use my middle name, most of the people in my life don't even know what it is, but they were the names I was born with.

Some of my friends who were born here think it's cool that I have two last names.

I was thinking about dropping my maternal last name on the SSN application since it asks for name to be shown on card.
