Yesterday I got cited for open container, we were parked and drinking in the car before the bars (stupid i know). The officer gave me a citation and its listed as an infraction, meaning i basically have to just pay a fine, i have to show up to court...should I be worried about deportation?

thanks for your help

It's an infraction. No. Check the court paper that will come in the mail, you may not even have to show up. You can just pay the fine. And be glad the officer didn't hassle you and give you a dui. And don't be stupid.

not unless they send you to jail... then yes you should worry. I am just curious how the police managed to give you ticket in a parking lot. Obviously you were doing something to draw the attention. smh

Ok. I don't think they will put you in jail. (If you are in jail, you will eventually fall in removal of proceeding) BUT you must have the cash at the court to pay your fee. If you don't have the cash, judge could hold you in jail or put you in probation for it.

its definitely not jail time since its not a misdemeanor, I looked more into it and it seems like the court date is really only necessary if i want to contest the citation, otherwise I think i can just pay the fine and move on. Thanks for the help Justin.
