At first I was like you guys, pissed that the CIA was subverting a bunch of S. American regimes and toppling leftist governments. But then I looked a the genocide score and figured,...eh, better than having commies.

Sounds effed up I know, but I can only think of da Silva having worked out.

Dude, are you fucking kidding me? What you wrote down is fucking inhumane and ignorant. Most of the people who were labeled "communists" and were brutally murdered were not even communists! This was the case in El Salvador and Guatemala, for example. These were people who wanted different strategies of development. Some survivors of the era have even declared that they were not affiliated with "communists." They just disliked the fact that foreign firms were in their countries exploiting their labor and natural resources.

Have you read the accounts of little innocent indigenous kids being brutally murdered by gutless paramilitaries? And, you say that is better than having commies?! what the fuck is wrong with you?!

'cuz Stalin, Mao, and Ho chi Minh were such peaches? Listen, I'm well aware how unchecked capitalism was ravaging the communities south of the border (why Mexico nationalized oil), but Communism has such a horrible track record that I can almost bet with certainty we're better off the CIA intervened. Let's not turn a blind eye to the fact that there was a big push for turning red during that time in S. America, and the huge proletarian population would have without a doubt voted these ppl. into office. That, plus the KGB was doing the same thing down there; Allende wouldn't have won the popular vote w/o their cash.

I'm glad there are leftist movements from time to time...keeps Capitalism in check; but in no way do I wish them to take over. And don't twist my words, atrocities are never right, and it's inevitable that they will happen no matter the political system. Sure we'll never know what the alternatives would have been, but history has given us a insight on those.

Stalin, Mao, and Ho chi Minh were brutal. I agree. But, you cannot assume that things were going to turn out the same way in Latin America. Chavez may be a prick. But, he is not Stalin.

Well, some Latin-American leaders were "red". Salvador Allende was a socialist. But, he was DEMOCRATICALLY elected. However, other people weren't red. Demanding alternative means for development and deviating from some of the principles of capitalism does not necessarily make you a "red." This was the case, like I said, in Guatemala and El Salvador.

Yes, he is. I hate it when they do that. It's not impossible to legalize people and secure the border at the same time. It's bullshit.

"Commie" was the excuse give to ignorant people. Do not be that naive. It was not communism. Iran is still "mad" at the US for what the CIA did in 1953. USA drue first blood not Iran.

Pistols and knives......most likely more knives though. Hurts more when they slice you up. I guess it's not as bad as Mexico with the cartels, but very bad indeed in big urban areas. And poverty is so rampant that I'd never want to go back to India to live (I'd go just to visit my family). And now, don't get me wrong, a lot of the areas are "safe," but it's the cities/urban areas I'm talking about - the slums.
