Btw..I just called and other offices don't have any info on social security status unless your app is cleared and a social has been generated for you.

This is my advise so you don't get generic answers..

Ask:
"When was my IV sent? What was the response? (No Response/Suspect)"
If IV is still pending (Doubt it it takes seconds) /end
else "What Verification are we waiting for, IV/AV?"
if AV ask "When was AV sent?"
An AV request takes a couple days to come back because it searches all databases (it takes a few minutes, but SSA does not sit around and wait for it, they come back another day to check on it)
If AV response was Suspect "Are you going to send G-845 or was it already sent?"

Depending on the answers you get from that is how long you'll know when your SSN will be generated.

I called an office today that is different from mine and that is what I was originally told, but the guy was nice and he agreed to check my case with my reference number and told me it said "pending information" and told me to call back Monday.

So it might not be so much that they CAN'T check it, but they'd rather not check it because they don't want to or aren't supposed to.

Woohoo! I just called my local SSA Office and it looks like I have been assigned a number . The fellow that answered said the card takes a week or two since it is being shipped from Baltimore. I asked him if I could get a printout and he said "Yes, but you have to have a good reason, and bring your ID." Well duh. I guess I will say that I have applied for a job and I need the number. I am sure this would be a good enough reason?

You're right I just called a different office and the nicest lady answered the phone. She checked and told me that my social security app was verified yesterday, so I should go on Monday to get a ssn print-out.

Wow. Congrats. That's what I was told too. that I have to have a good reason. But it depends on the office and the people. Some will really be assholes and ask for a reason. Others like in fountain valley will just give it to you. No questions asked.

Yeah that is very true. Just about all government agencies are like that. You just have to be lucky. I applied at the one in San Jose. The gentlemen that took my application was very kind, had a smile, and tried to joke in a nice way. I hope when I go for the printout this Monday, he will be there! And if I get it, I am heading to the DMV immediately
