Thank you, thank you. Right? Nine little numbers is all it takes to make your life.

You know, I always envisioned this day to be a life changing moment--and it most certainly is--but it honestly doesn't feel like anything has changed. I still feel illegal, believe it or not (technically I still am I suppose....). Thought I would be ecstatic and that this would be one of the happiest days of my life, but I don't feel it. The only thing I feel is relief that I don't have to wait for anything anymore... well maybe only the actual SSN card and my DL. It sucks to have such a muted response to such a great blessing. These are the sad consequences of spending a lifetime behind a wall of suppression; it doesn't quite sink in when that wall is taken down.
Ahh, Ill probably feel the same way! On the first day most dreamers found out about DACA it was all excitement and celebrating. Its been months since that happened and our excitement has died down. Now our moods are mostly: Is it here yet? Ugh. Okay, its here. Lets get some work done.

The truth is, we are STILL illegal. We are just legally illegal. That is why the original Dream Act is still important. It wont hit us until we are able to do the things we were never able to do. But for now, we need to rejoice.

I feel exactly the same way. We've grown apart from the rest of society because of our limitations and our stigma. I've personally never felt integrated, and the fact that I know that some of my neighbors and the people I interact with on a daily basis passionately hate my kind (undocumented immigrant and a minority) makes it more difficult.

My SSA Experience for Those Who Care

I went to the SSA office in Chatsworth today, 11 business days after my date of approval. They had me take a number and wait in the lobby. There were a lot of people, and they had different numbers depending on the purpose of their visit.

The woman who helped me with my application asked for three things:
1. Application (I checked the box that says "Legal Alien Allowed to Work")
2. EAD Card
3. Valid ID (I used my valid passport)

She punched a bunch of keys on her keyboard, verified my information, and ten minutes later, she was done. She told me that I will have my card in about a week, after which I could take it to the DMV. I was given the receipt, but not a printout of the actual SSN number. She said that it takes the system about a day to generate a new number.

I arrived at the office at 9:09 AM (office opens at 9), and I left at 9:39 AM. Quick, easy, and painless.

You're right...but one step at a time. I never liked the idea of a working permit, but that's what they are giving us now. We just need to keep fighting and hope that the dream act comes within two years.

Me neither! DACA is just simply an election year bonus to get the Hispanic vote. But first things first, in order for Dream to pass we need Obama to keep his presidential seat. Congratulations on your printout!

I went to the SS office today, everything went smoothly except for the wait (about an hour and a half). Showed my EAD and passport, the lady asked me 3 questions and said I would get my ss card in 2 weeks.

I have a question regarding filling out the SSA application.
For question 5: Citizenship, which option do I choose:

- U.S. Citizen
- Legal Alien Allowed To Work
- Legal Alien Not Allowed
- Other

Also, we do not have to input our parents' SSNs right, since we are 18+? (so leave it question 8, 9, 10 blank correct?)
