Today I applied for SSN and I was day dreaming about getting a NJ license BUT I found out on the NJ DMV website that ALL beginning drivers even 21+ have to have at least 3 month of supervised driving... Someone told me that the supervised driving period can be reduced if I have an expired driver's license. Do any of you guys know if it is true?

Yes. My father recently applied for a NJ license and since he has an expired license from our country, they gave him his road test appointment right away. This is the DMV in Randolph, NJ.

For how long was the license expired? Because only if my license wasn't expired for more than 3 years, I can just renewed it without taking road test and written test again.

It expired in 2009, I don't know the exact month. Initially they told him it's expired so it doesn't count but after the written test, they sent him straight to road test appointment. This could have to do with the fact that it's obvious he's been driving for 30+ years but if you have an expired license, it's definitely worth a shot!

Yes you can still get your license. Go to DMV show them your six points plus your expired license. If you talk to the clerk before going to the line and explain to her she will direct you. My father had a NJ license which expired 07 and he renewed January of this year and he only had to take the written test and eye test and done!

My father renewed his license after 3 years so he had to take the written and the driving test again but didn't have to wait the 3 months.

My father took the diving test 2 weeks after he passed the written test. He wanted one sooner but that was the first date available. My other friend also went to renew his license after 3 years and they wanted to give him an appt in 3 months which was the first date available. He decided to go to another dmv in south jersey because they had more available appt sooner, so one week later he took his driving test.
