so.. I applied to Fortis Institute and they refused to let me go there for dental assisting.
even though my bf's dad had offered to pay full tuition for me. I was just told , "you are not a citizen so at the end of the program you will not get your x ray licence."

you're better off. those for profit "schools" are expensive and they give you a worthless certificate at the end (not even a degree). you should watch this.

go to a community college and get a better education for a lot less money.

I agree with Osito 100%. You are WAY better off at an accredited community college. I personally do not like schools like Devry, University of Phoenix, or Remington College, which are all schools that are either not accredited by the same associations that accredit state universities, or their certificates and degrees are worthless. I know somebody who graduated as a dental assistant from one of these schools and is now back in school at a community college because nobody wanted to hire her with that degree. The college that I went to my first two years was only charging $140 for one class (3 credit hours) and all of the classes were transferable to a four-year university. Those same classes at the university were nearly $1000 each. It was one of the best choices I ever made and I have to say that it appeared that the curriculum at the community college seemed much harder sometimes than at the university.

Yep, community college is the way to go. Many employers aren't even gonna take a second look at you certification.

That would be the case, had I been taking the exact same classes at the university that I took at the community college. It seemed as if the expectations at the community college were much greater. The Lone Star Community College system in Texas is one of the biggest and fastest growing in the nation. They definitely mean business and I had many instructors there with a lot of experience and prestigious backgrounds. For example, some of my instructors were former police officers, district attorneys, researchers, and I even had one instructor that had spent a year in Antarctica. At the university, the professors seemed more relaxed and laid back. Yes they still required a lot of work to be done, but it seemed as if they were a bit lazy and didn't push us as hard.

My HS Diploma with Honors sticker is worth more than all the 'degree's' from those For Profit Schools.
