I applied on the 2nd, got approved today, so the 10 day warning was not really a myth for me. It took longer than expected. At least stay away from offices in metropolitan areas (i went to one, that's why the longer waiting ) , go to the offices in the suburbs, they seem more polite and service is way faster. You may even get approved the very same day.

Did not ask me anything, just typed away on her computer for a couple of minutes and looked over my passport and EAD card. After that, she just gave me a receipt to confirm that I am applying for SSN and told me that I should have it in two weeks. I asked her if I could come back to get a printout and she said no so I guess that's the little downer in all this. Still it could have been worse if I wasn't in their system yet or something.
