lol.. yeah man, i just get ticked off some times.. specially when somebody responds with this "It was required to wait 10 days when DACA process was new. "

no where, and i mean no where did it say that you HAD to wait 10 days to apply for a social security number, because that's all i'm clarifying here, i didn't say "there's a 10 day waiting period AFTER you apply for your social security number" if that's what he meant then well he read my original post wrong.

you have to wait after you apply for your number because we have to get cleared by DHS, some of us will take longer for that as our names could be very common in their databases, so they want to make sure that you're who you say you are.

so again, after you get your EAD you can go to your local SSA office, and apply for your new social, RIGHT AWAY! NO 10 DAY WAITING PERIOD...that will not make the process faster. That's all i'm really clarifying.

the waiting starts AFTER you apply for the number

i hope this helps people!

I was also told the application would be on hold for 10 days first. People are not coming up with that, it's a FACT. Some SSA offices don't care some do. Luck of the draw.

I suggest waiting the 10 days. I'm away at school, so when I took the bus back home to apply at the SSA, I had to make sure it would be a smooth process. Many people who applied as soon as their EAD came out were 1)told to come back in a few days or 2)had to wait an even longer time overall because they weren't in the system.

Having gone to the SSA office, I would have been embarrassed and frustrated if I made the effort to go to the office and gotten denied. Wait the 10 days for a smooth and enjoyable experience!

the only wait is while they verify your docs with DHS after you go in. 7-10 days if they can do it online. longer if they can't verify them online.

i'm guessing that's the wait that the employees at SSA were talking about.

since people are too lazy to click on the link provided:

How long does it take to process a Social Security number application from a legal alien with permission to work?

It takes approximately 7 to 10 business days after we verify your immigration documents with the Department of Homeland Services (DHS) before we can assign you a Social Security number. After receiving verification from DHS, we will mail your Social Security card. In most cases, we can verify your documents within two weeks with DHS online.

If we cannot verify your documents online, it may take us several weeks to hear from DHS. We work closely with DHS to reduce delays.

To follow up on your application for a Social Security number, return to to the Social Security office where you filed your application. When you go, take the documents you originally presented as evidence.

While you are waiting for your card to arrive in the mail, we can:

Issue a notice acknowledging you filed an application for a Social Security number and your documents are being verified.
Send your employer or others a notice once we assign you a Social Security number.
Let you know the Social Security number we have assigned to you before you receive the card in the mail.
