Well, just wondering right now I have a cell phone that is under my dad's sprint account. So now that we are eligible for a SSN can I go to for example radio shack and get a cellphone myself? Having a ssn is enough to get a cellphone right...??? Thanks.

You can get a cell phone without a SSN with Cricket, and boostmobile, and prepaid plans from US Cellular, ATT, & Sprint.

If you want a cell phone with a plan on Sprint, Verizon, and ATT, they do require a SSN because they check your credit history. If you do not have a credit history, they will charge you $5-10 extra per month for a year. They did that for Sprint on my mom's account and they called it "Spending Limit" it was taken off a month ago after she completed 12 consecutive payments on time.

A state ID is enough. I dont think my parents have ever used their ssn Card to open an account.

True. I would stick with Cricket until I built some credit up. Even after, actually. They are so much cheaper and even offer the iphone 5 now. Haha.

I recently opened my own Cell phone account with AT&T. I did have to give my ssn and also if you are a student say so! You get a discount which helps!

And now that T-Mobile is starting to enable 3G on the iphone, that's probably the best deal out there....

I have Cricket, cheap and it covers both the area where I lived and where I go to school. Plus, I am about to upgrade to an android phone (got a brand new one for 5 dollars since my school does auctions twice a year of lost stuff) since I will now be able to work and the price is only 15 more dollars a month.
