I have never been licensed at all. My DACA is approved and EAD is on it's way and right after I will get my social security. I have a local DMV next town over. I kinda do have a driving record with the state of NJ for not driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident, but i went to court for that and paid the fine and that's it. What kind of a license will I get and will there be any restrictions? I'm 19 and a half btw.

Hi beachgirl first of all Congratulations!!

As I understand you have never applied for a DL/ID at NJ DMV. So your process will be as follow I'm also 19 and I have my license from NJ.

Since you are under 21 you will have to pass the written test and will be granted your permit for six months which means you are allowed to drive with someone who has at least three years license. Your permit is for six months after the six months they will make an appointment for your road test. You take your road test six months and you pass you will get a one year probationary license (It will be vertical instead of horizontal like the normal ones) Since you are a teenage driver you will also have to put the Red Decals stickers on your plates.

When you go to the DMV you need to proof 6points. Go here and you can read what you can use as six points and also see how many points you have.

You will not have to put red decals stickers as you are over 18 so that is wrong. Other then that everything is correct.

Oh and I forgot to put the restrictions of when you get your probationary license.
http://www.nj.gov/mvc/Licenses/YoungAdult.htm

You do need the red decals stickers if you are under 21 and have a permit or probationary license. Once you get your basic then you don't need it.

There are a few more threads on this that go into this in much more detail. Please use the search function. Not trying to be a dick, but you will get more information that way I'm sure.

When I get my SSN, I'm gonna apply for an examination permit too as I'm 18 years old. But I go to college and I really need to drive there. I saw on the MVC website that you can get certain hours of exemptions. Does anyone know how to apply for that?

I believe that's given in special cases and you have to proof the time periods that exceed like per say driving passed 11 pm. I would ask when you get your learner's permit. Good luck!
