Spoke to Permanent Resident friend and he said I will not be able to file for tax returns on any deductions because my SSN is not the same as a US Citizen or Permanent Resident SSN...

Is this true?

I was hoping to at least file for tuition expenses deductions, but now I am kinda confused.

Is our SSN a different type of SSN?

You do get tuition deductions, they allow certain ones even with an ITIN so a SSN should be no problem.

Very good to hear...but the way this "friend" was telling me about these things was as if my SSN was second rate or something..

I thought once I got my SSN, then that was it and I would be able to file for any deductions as any other SSN holder, if it be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident or EAD holder etc.

I just want to make sure about this, I may also have to consult with my accountant when I do my taxes.

You're "friend" is a fear monger, you will be eligible for all the same deductions as every one else.

your friend dont know what he is talking about, i own a tax place and for sure my friend you qualify for all the credits, deduction as a regular citizen. IRC is not base on citizen or permanent resident, everybody is a resident alien base on the days in united states more than 180.

Thats why I do my taxes online or myself, the intructions and online tax programs always alert you when you dont qualify for something based on the information input into the system, and if you dont understand something you can always look at the instructions and it should clarify.

The "permanent resident friend"???! Really?! You're so gullible!!! And your friend is so dumb! your SSN is as good as anyone else and is yours forever! You are qualified not only for every deduction an refund and past ones too!!! They're called amiendas in Spanish I think ammetities!<---- that could be wrong! My tax preparer told me once I get a legit SSN I will be able to get past tax credits for my son!!
