You have to bring both your original certificate and 1 photocopy of it. Just in case, you can also bring your passport and photocopy of it as well. I do not think you need to wait 10 days. They may already informed your approval to your local ss office. Good luck.

^ Hey man I just went today. The person in front of me I noticed had a venezuelan passport. She went up and it seems like she got turned away. When she walked past me with her parents it seems they were talking about having to get another one.

Yeah fuck Chavez.
EDIT: In case people didn't know, Venezuela requires you to go back to the country and get a cedula to renew your passport, something many dreamers don't have because they came here at a young age. You can only get a cedula back in Venezuela. In some cases, theres not even an embassy nearby to even try to renew(Miami got closed down)

Anyway from what I can tell, most offices are strict about the ID you bring in. You cannot bring in any copies, they have to be original and they cannot be expired. The best I would think to do is to plead your case to the person and try to talk to management(because lets face it, most of us can't go back to our countries and renew our passports) or just simply wait for your birth certificate to arrive.

I went yesterday and I only showed my passport (unexpired) and the EAC. They didn't say anything and I got a receipt saying I should have my card within 10 days. I think if you have an expired ID, you should probably take your birth certificate with you. Make sure you provide the original, not the copy. They just look at it and give it back to you when you leave.
