They give that option there? Is like a class room setting in which
they go over the book manual and then u take a test follwed by a
driving test? Sorry if I sound uneducated I just never knew
The process..

You can choose to do it in an actual classroom, but it is costly compared to doing it online.
I just finished the course and should get my certificate on Tuesday.
Basically, you go over the information in the handbook and take the course exam at the end.
If you pass, you get a certificate which take to DPS to apply for a license and schedule a road test.

Here is a link to all the online schools approved by DPS: http://www5.esc13.net/drivers/list-a...n-schools.html

Alright guys, the big day is tomorrow: road test. I didn't get a chance to attempt a walk-in for the road test last week so my scheduled date has finally arrived. I'll let y'all know how it went after.

Thanks! I passed, yay! Sure thing. I received my SS# on October 19th in the mail so I immediately headed to the DMV on Townhurst (near beltway 8 and I-10 west), got in line and and presented: passport, EAD card, SS# card, bank statement letter, medicaid letter for my son addressed to me. I also pulled out my expired 2009 DL to ask the lady if I could just renew it... and she said no because my DL had expired over 2 years go and I would need to apply for a new one. She gave me a number, the paperwork and I waited and waited and waited for 4 hours to be called up. The lady there asked to see all my documents and said that my bank statement was too old (a little over the 60 days) and said I would have to come back. Luckily, I took the whole envelope with the SS card and I showed it to her because the card comes attached to a paper with your name and address, also pointed out the postmarked date on the envelope and the date on the SS card. She looked annoyed, but finally gave in and accepted it as the second proof of address. I paid $25 total for the license (24) and service fee (1).
Then I had to go take the computer test, it's 30 questions multiple choice. Pretty easy test, I think. I passed and then got in another line to make the appointment for my road test. It seems they give you an appointment two weeks after you pass the computer test. They print out a receipt with your info on it and give you a slip with your appointment info.
Today at the road test, I parked in the back of the building where the road test applicants are supposed to wait in line for the next available rep. Once it was my turn the lady asked for an ID and I gave her the passport, proof of insurance on the car and then pulled out my slip and started. She asked me to honk, use my signals, checked the stickers on the car, the brake lights on the back, etc. and got in the car and explained that she would be checking for control of the car, correct speed, my awareness of the traffic around me, etc. etc. It starts off with the parallel parking. Oh she did tell me a bunch of things that would automatically END the test and FAIL me such as hitting a pole, going on the sidewalk, failing parallel parking, making a traffic violation, doing something illegal, etc. etc. i can't remember all. I passed the parallel and she had me go around the neighborhood a good 10-15 mins, stop the car in the middle of the road and back up, go in a cul-de-sac, etc. At the end she said I did well but that I need to stop before reaching the stop sign and not at the stop sign... and also that when I'm driving even though I don't have a stop sign I should slow down when crossing an intersection (where THEY have a stop sign) and look both way before proceeding. Honestly, I thought it was a bit too much. I've been told I drive like a grandma so... yeah. I should be getting the actual card in two weeks, I got a printed permit in the meantime. Good luck to you!

Whoa! Congrats!!!

I just got my SSN today. I still have to do my 6 hour course, and then try to do a walk in since all the DMV appointments seem to be booked until late December or January. :/
