Do you just bring your passport/DEA card to the SSN office and they will automatically assign you a Social security number or is there more to it?

Thanks in advance.

Yea, I just went today. I took my Birth Certificate and my consulate I.D. You just walk in and do what the security guard tells you to(Get a number, Fill out the application, and wait to be called). That's pretty much it.

This was my experience.

Went in on the day I received my EAD.
I had printed out the application online.
http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.pdf
There is a security guard at the door. It's very similar to when you board a plane.
They make you put your wallet and keys and change into a bin. I was told that I could not bring my skeletool multi-tool knife into a federal building. Got in and took a number.

The place was packed with people waiting for free money.

About a 45 minute wait before my number was called. Went to the window. Gave him the application, my birth certificate (I brought a translation that was notarized) and the EAD.
He checked everything over. Said everything was okay. Gave me a printout that said I had successfully applied for a social security number. The letter said it would arrive in one to two weeks. Arrived in exactly six days.
