I was able to get one with my current bank. I just went in and applied. I was approved on the spot but they said you do need some income. Im sure you could get a discover or cap one.

Dont know why citi was being weird about it but ill try again later cuz i like their rewards system.

Try in like 2-3 months... Not before because they will automatically deny you.

believe me. you do NOT want a Macy's card. their interest rates are RIDICULOUS! i don't even know why, it's not like all of their stuff is all high end stuff.
the credit card at Nordstrom had half the interest rates of Macys' card.
If i remember correctly the interest rates of Nordstrom card AND Victoria's Secret Angel's card together would equal to the interest amount I had with the Macy's card.

Good thing I never really shopped or liked Macy's that much (I always preferred Nordies )
It sucked big time when payments were ONE day late...

Just try to stay away from the Macy's cards...

Unless you have great credit you most likely wont apply for Macys' My bf (who is legal) works as a paralegal so money isn't an issue but his credit bad and he can't even get one of those. Also be careful because apparently every time you check your credit it can kind of hurt if you don't have good credit or something like that...because of Macys and a jewelry store my bf isn't trying anymore he checks online.

First of all, Income is an indication that you have job. That you have money coming in from someplace. Macy's and Department Stores in general are not a good way to build credit. It is better to open a bank card. If your a student open a bank account and they will offer you a credit card. Since you have no credit history or income you will most likely only be approved between 200-1500 dollars tops. I was approved about 2 years ago for only $1200 as a student.
Second, I wouldn't open bank accounts for your family etc to spend money on just clothes and stuff. I highly recommend you read up on credit and how interest rates work. Because if you get approved for that type of credit you will most likely end up with a really high interest rate. Look it up. It is not just about making the minimum payment but about the money they charge you for loaning you the money. Because that is what a credit card is=a loan.

If I can't even get a Macy's card to establish credit, how will I ever open a visa or amex?
Do you suggest I wait until I get a job? What should I do?
It is definitely hard to get a credit card at Macys...you have to make like about $20,000 or so ive heard. but yeah, go with a bank. At bank of america they offer credit cards to students. So try that

I successfully got my credit report. Downloaded the form from annualcreditreport.com, filled it up with ITIN and mailed it. They sent me only an experian report. Unfortunately though the report doesn't list my credit score. It shows both of my credit card accounts in good standing. There have been numerous "credit inquiries" since I've applied for so many credit cards. Lesson learned definitely. It does say in the bottom these inquiries do not affect your credit score but I definitely will not be applying like a mad person any more. If anybody here already has a credit card and is using it wisely for few months and want to apply for Discover, I can send you a referral link...both of us benefit if you get approved. Discover has amazing customer service.
