I am currently enrolled at a community college in California. I had applied for the California Dream Act which would allow me to receive Financial Aid. Sadly, the help wont come until next spring of 2013 which is one of the main reasons that i had to attend a community college and not a state four year institution like i had planned. Although i have no idea how much help i will actually receive. I am hopeful that it will at least cover my tuition since i could get a job a cover my living expenses. But i guess i wont know until next school semester.

A financial aid adviser at my school told me that once i submitted my CA Dream Act App, i would qualify for a fee waiver which would pretty much allow me to get free tuition for as long as i stayed at the community college. I am not sure if the CA Dream act or any other state versions of it will provide any help. I did hear from my adviser that AB540 students in California will have last priority when it comes to financial aid. I honestly do not mind the priority as long as we get something

Does anyone have any additional information regarding Financial Aid and DACA? Will having a SSN and Work Authorization allow us to receive some help other than things such as the CA Dream Act or other versions of it? Will we qualify for scholarships such as the ones which say only legal US residents qualify?? Any advice helps guys!

California? yes because California passed their own version of Dream Act.

Other states? no.

You are only able to apply for financial aid under the CA DA. Meaning, you do not qualify for FAFSA and other scholarships/grants that are for permanent residents/ucs's only.

Wait until spring 2013 because that is when they will start giving the fee waivers for community college. Also they will start accepting applications for cal grants for fall 2013. I go to CSUN and I got financial aid for next semester.

Texas yes since 2001. But you'd have to meet the requirements though.

I did community college first then transferred to state; however, I worked my way through. I did not get shit. Stay in California and apply for the CA DREAM Act. Even though AB 540 students have last priority, I am sure we are guaranteed to receive a really good amount of aid. Through the CA DREAM Act, my friend will be receiving a state university grant that covers part-time GRADUATE tuition. So, community college should not be a problem. Everything will work out. Just worry about doing well in school and engaging yourself in the community.

Yea just be patient. I just received my aid package about a month ago, and its fully paying my winter/spring quarters at the UC i am currently attending. Just do a cc transfer, its way more efficient economically at this point.

^This. And, UCs are more expensive. So, don't worry about not receiving enough! :- )
