Same in Nevada!

There is a "behind the bar" test that you have to take at the dmv to get the full license. It's just a simple course they make you ride. But from what I hear it's a pain in the ass and the instructors are strict.

Fortunately, in CA, you can go to a Motorcycle Safety Course and upon completion of the course, you will get your full license. You just have to take your certificate back to the dmv. It does cost like $200 or so. But what you learn in that course is worth way more than that. Especially if you've never ridden before. I highly suggest you take it.
this is true my brother got a motorcycle licence here in cali... he didnt know how to ride a motorcycle... he went to West Vallet Occupational Center.. and i think he paid like $250... for the 3 days course... they provided him a motorcycle to practice there.. and then he just took the certificate to the DMV and got the license..
