So, not everything is written in stone. Several ppl called and they let them put in service requests. Don't see what the big deal is.

Yes, you have the right to call and ask about your I-765 AFTER your I-821D has been approved and 90 days have passed.
Before that, the service request won't do anything, did you read the response the other user got?
If you aren't approved before you get a response on your Service Request, that is what it will say.
