Hello everyone! I have a quick question to ask to any dreamer living in CT. Today I went to the DMV to apply for a State ID, I brought my bills, my eda card, my social and my passport. However, the lady told me she needed to see my notice of action. I went back a few hours later with my work permit and daca notice of actions and she told me this still wasn't enough. I came here with a tourist visa, but in the 10 yrs living here that passport expired and I had to renew it. The passport I took with me was the one without the visa. She told me she needed to see my visa and i-94 (which I don't have either, but that's another story).

I was under the impression that I didnt need to show my visa to the dmv? And if I-94 are absolutely necessary to get a state id? I called my lawyer today but he hasnt answer me back. I have a feeling this woman just didnt feel like doing it and was just bsing me. I will try a different dmv on friday but now I'm super nervous I wont get my ID or even a liscence.

Maybe somebody here can help you out. I see there are plenty of CT dreamers who have successfully got their IDs/DLs. Don't you have your old passport with the Visa? There have been cases where some employees aren't fully aware of the rules so don't worry. You definitely qualify for a state ID/DL. But I do remember reading on the drivers manual and various other spots that they'll check your foreign passport for a visa.

This.

The EAD is on the list of acceptable documents. Take that print-out to the DMV, along with all your DACA approvals/documents, and ask for a supervisor if someone gives you trouble again. If the supervisor doesn't work, get them to call the office in Hartford. People who don't have visas or passports even (think some TPS recipients) are eligible for licenses. The clerks just aren't knowledgeable enough in immigration to know better.

@2FACE: Yes my Visa is on my old passport and I will bring it with me on Friday just in case. I just find it ironic the SS lady didn't even make this big of a deal when I went to apply for mine. And thanks for the link! I shall start posting over there then!

You mean the UCSI office right? I knew the visa/I94 excuse was silly because I kniw plenty of dreamers without either one already have their DL. I will try going to either Bridgeport or Norwalk on Friday. I hope it goes better this time.

Thanks to both of you! I feel better now lol

I applied for a state ID today and had no problem at all. I gave them my EAD, Passport, and Social Security card. To prove address i gave them my BoA and Amex statement. Try a different DMV. It seems like she doesnt know her job well enough.

I actually meant DMV, but keep USCIS on that list as a last resort

Hi that's ridiculous. I live in ct and went to the Danbury office today for my road test and already got me full term 5 year license. When I went the first time I showed my ead social certificate of driving school and 2 bills. The guy just smiled and told me to wait to get called for the computer test. I passed it and then scheduled the road test for today. The lady you spoke to was just misinformed . My lawyer spoke to the DMV commissioner in ct and she affirmed that we will get licenses and I'm the living proof of it. Go there again and demand a license or Id because u are entitled to one.

Quick question just to make sure. Was it Select CT ID/Gold star or not?
